Pastoral Care
Pastoral care forms an integral element of the philosophy and mission statement at Choithram International and all staff members have a responsibility to care for the well-being of our students. Its significance is reflected in our structures, leadership roles, procedures and curriculum. It also underpins the daily interactions between and amongst both staff and students.
Each grade level is supported by a team of homeroom teachers, the university counsellor, the school counsellor and the curriculum leader for student learning support. The homeroom teacher provides the point of first contact for students and parents. Pastoral care involves regular one-to-one tracking and mentoring of students. It focuses on the well-being and progression of each student on an individual basis. Our pastoral curriculum is comprehensive, age appropriate and addresses the students’ social and emotional development. It equips them with the skills they will need to face the challenges in an ever-changing world.
The Role of the Form Tutor
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child states: “all children have the right to an education which develops their personality and talents to the full. This must take place in a clean, safe and nurturing environment.”
Your role as a Form Tutor is an important one. You are often the first member of staff our students meet when they arrive for induction .You are the first to greet the students in the morning and get their day off to a good start and you are the first point of contact for parents.
Your primary responsibility as Form Tutor is to build positive relationships and to model behaviour that promotes respect, responsibility and resilience. As this is a front line pastoral role, routines may vary. Within this role, the following tasks are expected:
